This week we covered some of the major Native American Tribes in Texas. We talked about the theory of how people got to North and South America and focused on 10 main people groups that were in what we now call Texas when Europeans arrived. We discussed different lifestyles of the Comanche and Caddo tribes based on where they lived. We got to sample "pemmican" (beef jerky) and talked about how natives had to preserve their food. It was also interesting to learn how Bison hunters would use every single part of the Bison. We read The Legend of the Bluebonnet and talked a little about the Comanche concept of gods. We also discussed the purpose of myths and legends and how it differs from oral history. We watched a video on the Caddo peoples and what evidence they left behind that tells us about how they lived. Our hour ended pondering what a future civilization might think about our culture, given what we leave behind.
Whew!! We covered a lot this week! And there is more to talk about!
Remember, there is a project due next week. If you do not want to carry your project around, you might think about dropping it off in the classroom in the morning. I am sure the other classes will respect our projects and leave them unharmed.
Here is your list of homework for this week (also found on your checklist in front of your homework packet):
1) Project
2) Vocabulary Matching Sheet
3) Open Disk Test for Vol I (you should ace this, if you can't find the answer on your disk, keep looking, it's there!)
4) There are no videos to watch this week.
